Binding Preparation
Library binding provides monograph and serials volumes with a strong outer covering that can protect text pages from damage during storage, transport, and use; and help to prevent loss and theft. The results of various binding methods vary, and knowing the appropriate application of each can help to ensure that binding is not damaging to text, and that volumes open well.
The Weissman Preservation Center (Harvard University Library) and Conservation Services (Harvard College Library) can advise about selection of binding methods and help to solve problems presented by materials in odd formats.
These services are available free-of-charge to the Harvard University Library community.
