This year Harvard celebrates 100 years of Slavic studies, with magnificent library collections that support teaching and research in this area. Unfortunately, many of these materials are so deteriorated that use results in loss of text.

We estimate that at least 35 percent of the University's eighteenth and nineteenth-century volumes, across all subjects, are brittle.
