Project Planning

A fully developed project plan, including work plan, timelines and budgets is essential to the success of any digital imaging project. Imaging Services staff can provide assistance in the:

  • analysis of project needs
  • development of project methodology, including identifying project requirements for the use of OIS systems
  • formulation of work plans (incorporating existing or new workflows), timelines and budgets
  • planning for project staffing
  • development of imaging specifications

Imaging Services staff will also guide projects through the Harvard College Library's Collections Reformatting Review Committee's vetting and approval process, necessary for any HCL digital project, as well as for any large project from outside the College Library undertaken by Imaging Services.

In approving projects, the CRRC considers the following:

  • Condition of original materials
  • Current and proposed access to materials
  • Benefit to the collection, user or institution that could be provided through digitization
  • Constituency project will benefit
  • Relationship to existing projects (at Harvard or beyond)
  • Intellectual property and rights

The following projects are among the many that have benefited from Imaging Services assistance in project planning:
