Publishing Collaboratives
Working with curators and librarians, WPC helps to develop contracts with publishers to reproduce and index the Library's collections for the benefit of students, scholars, and researchers.
For example, WPC manages the Harvard libraries' significant contributions to Periodicals Index Online (PIO) produced by Chadwyck-Healey, a division of ProQuest. The index offers users a citation database of almost 17 million articles from over 5,000 journals in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, dating as far back as 1665. PIO provides access to digitized back files of hundreds of national and international journals that have become increasingly difficult to find over time. Instead of looking through countless printed indexes and bibliographies, researchers can now search journal contents by author, journal title, subject, language, year of publication, and date ranges. Within PIO, there are also direct links to both Chadywck-Healey’s Periodicals Archive Online (PAO) and to JSTOR, which allow users to view 3.2 million of the indexed articles.
